Meet the Maker: Alex Sherrah from Coriole Sat 2nd July, 12pm
"[Together with] Italy, Australia is currently the most dynamic, soul-searching and facinating wine country in the world" says Walter Speller, who writes about Italian wine for Jancis Robinson M.W's website. It seems fitting then, that we explore the rise in popularity of some of the most interesting Italian varietals to hit our shores and compare them against their Australian counterparts.
Coriole Vineyards was one of the first wineries to introduce Sangiovese to the McLaren Vale wine region in the 1980's. Since then, Sangiovese has slowly gained traction in line with our changing palate from bold, heavy reds to more food friendly wines. It's no surprise also that in recent years they have expanded their Italian varietal collection to Prosecco, Fiano, Nero d'Avola and Barbera.
Alex Sherrah is the senior winemaker at Coriole and has a fantastic understanding of the vineyards and style that Coriole produces. Alex will be joining us on Saturday 2nd July at 12pm & 2pm to take us through the Coriole range and explain the history behind the winery and their Italian varietals. These wines will then be closely matched to some of our favourite Italian wines to gain a better understanding of the true nature of these wines and how they are progressing in Australia.
