Producer: Linnaea

Grape: Cortese 100%

Pronunciation: ‘Cor-te-ze’

Region: Pimeonte, Italy

Zone: Monferrato DOC

Producer Info:

Linnaea Vineyards is not your typical wine producer. Born of the intense passion of Michelle Edwards and Daniel Fischl - one a winemaker of the highest acclaim, the other an Agricultural Scientist of international accolade - Cortese is an old and rare variety of unknown parentage, grown for centuries on and near the Ligurian coast.

Tasting note: Almond skin nuttiness on the nose complemented by a lemon pith and grapefruit astringency which carries onto the palate. This is a textural wine that offers great complexity and a driving minerality on the finish.

Growing System: Guyot

Production: From a planting of 30 year old vines sitting high in the Monferrato hills of Piemonte, this wine has seen 20% of the clusters individually selected, and destemmed to whole berry. This portion were fermented cool then macerated on skins for 30 days. The remaining clusters were harvested, pressed, and the juice slowly cold-fermented in stainless steel. The wines were re-united before bottling.
