Producer: Albino Rocca

Grape: 80% Nebbiolo, 10% Barbera, 10% Cabernet Franc

Region: Piedmont

Zone: Barbaresco

Producer Info:

When Angelo Rocca tragically passed away last year in a light plane accident, Barbaresco lost one of its most distinguished growers. It also lost a wonderful person and a deeply respected member of the Piemontese community. Rocca was a grower operating at the peak of his powers and producing the most exciting, terroir-intense wines of his career. His three daughters (Daniela, Monica and Paola) along with Angelo’s cellarmaster (and son in law) Carlo are determined to continue this legacy and so far they have not missed a beat.

Tasting note:

True to previous blends, the '13 is a delightful, punchy blend of perfumed, savoury Nebbiolo (80%), juicy Barbera (10%) and aromatic Cabernet Franc (10%), each parcel fermented separately in tank. The three varietals integrate together beautifully into a succulent, bright and perfumed tryst of vinous joyfulness. Expect oodles of dark cherry, blackberry and bitter chocolate like aromas and flavours. A medium bodied, juicy palate with lots of the same characters as the nose but also resinous, sappy complexity and some powdery tannins. Terrific value and great intro into the Nebbiolo based wines of Piemonte.
