This is a collaboration between multi award winning Journalist Nick Stock and renowned Barossa-based vigneron, Chris Ringland. “We are old mates and one day, after a couple (well, 4) bottles of inspiring Barolo, we decided to hunt down some good Nebbiolo and make some wine”, Nick recalls.

Solita Nebbiolo is sourced from the Longview vineyard, near Macclesfield, in the Adelaide Hills. The vineyard was established by Duncan MacGillivray in the early 90’s and is now owned by the Saturno family.

Tasting note: The 2007 Solita is coming out of its shell now, showing classic tones of dried rose petals, cherries and ground coffee, very reminiscent of a traditional Langhe nebbiolo. They’ve come close! By default, it has a new world twist owing to the Macclesfield vineyard where the fruit is sourced. There are no aggressive tannins to scare you off, merely a seamlessly integrated palate of subtle fruit, dried liquorice and savoury undertones

Growing System: Guyot

Soil Composition: Iron stone through a fine sandy loam topsoil with a underlying clay layer

Production: Selecting 1 tonne of Nebbiolo from vines growing on a steep, north-east facing slope and using a combination of clones 230, F12V7, F12V13, and 1-11. The fully de-stemmed grapes undergo wild yeast fermentation in one new French oak Demi-muid, which is then used for maturation of the wine.

Solita is matured in oak for around 36-40 months. The bottled wine is further matured for 5 to 7 years before release.

Alcohol (%) 14.5%
